Low Cost Airline Tips
So, the day started with Lovemoney.com sending an email telling me that ‘budget does not always mean cheap’ when looking at budget airlines. As usual, Ryanair, which seems to consistently being the ‘whipping-boy’ in the media does not fair well.
The article does actually read very well, and if you read it understanding that it paints the worst possible reflection of low-cost airlines it is worth the effort.
But, it does miss a little balance. I admit, there is no such thing as a "50p flight". But even with charges, you can still be considerably better off than you would using mainline air carriers.
The article also misses more pertinent points. Here are our top 5:
- Plan ahead – often Ryanair will offer deals when flights are announced. If you book your summer flights in December like we did you can save a packet. Our return flights to Alicante in July (school holidays not term time) for 4 cost less than £500.00.
- Fly midweek. Often weekend flights are more expensive.
- Accept what you get. If you are happy for a ‘flying taxi service’ go low-cost, if not, don’t. But don’t moan about the lack of service etc if you make the choice.
- Shop around – and I don’t just mean comparing Easyjet to Ryanair to Jet2 and so on. Consider where you travel from – if you live in London, are you willing to drive to Bristol rather than Gatwick to save money (sometimes as much as £200 for a family of four).
- ‘Package’ the ‘unpackaged’. You may have just spent £80 on flight costs, but you will still be saving hundreds on your holiday.

Ryanair announces Cheap Flights
Ryanair have today announced a range of £8 flights (see http://www.ryanair.com/en/cheap-bristol-uk-dublin-ireland-flights for details).
It seems that, as always with good news there is some bad - October half-term flights appear to have increased from this time last week.
Still, a family of four can still travel from Liverpool to Tenerife and stay in a 2-bed apartment for around £1,100.00 - still several hundred pounds cheaper than a package deal!
For more details see our October half-term holiday deals.

A Week In a Caravan - I would rather a Holiday Apartment in Spain!
![]() |
| The View to Alicante from the Beach by our apartment. |
Now, I struggled to believe it, but a quick Google search shows she was absolutely right – as the link here shows.
Now, I love Devon and Cornwall, but given a choice, especially how the weather has been since the middle of July, a trip to Spain would be far more appealing, right?
Well, let’s compare a weeks caravanning in Cornwall with the holiday we have just had.
A week in Devon - £800-900.00 for the caravan.
10 days in Spain, including accommodation, flights and transfers - £900.00.
That's the same price!!!
Don’t believe me – this is where we stayed.
So, if you are not sure how to book a fantastic holiday abroad without going for a package deal (which would have cost us over £2,000.00 for 10 nights), send us an email by clicking here and we will explain all!

Welcome to Worldwide Holiday Locations
Hi, welcome to our blog.
Ann and I set up this company after years of locating holiday apartments and villas through the web.
Friends have been doing this for years, and have told us that the sites that list holiday lettings haven't changed a bit in that time.
But the Internet has, so we are going to do something about it.
This process started in December last year - you know, that bit where you are stuffed full of turkey, sweets, alcohol and all the excesses of the festive period. The time when the big holiday firms are bombarding you with TV ads of "2 free child places", "kids go free", "20% off your Summer Holiday if you book now" - yet when you go online, a one week self-catering holiday for four in the school holidays still costs £2,000!
Then, if you are like me, you think "there has to be another way". And there is. It can save you money, and lots of it. But only if you have the time and inclination to trawl through the various rental sites, then to the low-cost airlines to find flights and so on.
There has to be a better way. We think we have found it. Over the coming months this blog will tell you how...
